Those who’ve been waiting to be able to grab a Starfield mod that rectifies many of the minor bugs and issues that Bethesda hasn’t quite gotten to yet are in luck; the first version of the game’s community patch is here.

For those out of the loop, the mod, which was in the works from a theoretical standpoint before the game even came out, is quite similar in terms of scope and aims to Skyrim and Fallout 4’s unofficial patches. The mission statement of the team behind it, some of whom also worked on those previous projects, “to fix bugs, errors and other inconsistencies present in the game”, with the hopes of improving “the vanilla experience for all players.”

Version 0.0.1 of the patch, which went live on Nexus Mods late yesterday, comes with a lengthy list of changes, many of which were likely made thanks to the issues players have been highlighting in their submissions to the mod’s official website. Among the most noteworthy tweaks this time are a couple made to the behaviour of companions.

One ensures they’ll no longer become enraged at you for boarding hostile ships, while another aims to make sure they’ll acknowledge changes to your character’s appearance. There’s also one that’ll make sure Neon Security will no longer accuse you of having a bounty even if you've never been arrested, which certainly sounds pretty useful if you’re aiming to have a stress-free trip to the Astral Lounge.

Some of the other changes included in this version might be a little harder to notice, unless you’re well-versed in the magazine sizes of your ship’s weapons or pay a lot of attention to making sure certain skill ranks are doing exactly what they say on the tin bonus-wise.

You can read through version 0.0.1's full list of changes here and, if you’ve experienced a bug that isn’t included in it, check out the current list of problem reports on the mod’s website here. As of writing, a whopping 324 potential issue tickets look to be open, so odds are whatever you’ve spotted might already be on the modders’ radar.
